Asela Waidyalankara, the son of DIG in charge of Batticaloa Ravi Waidyalankara who was assaulted by the son of Minister Maithreepala Sirisena and his accomplices was transferred to a private hospital in Colombo this afternoon.

The assault had taken place last evening.

Following the assault the victim was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Batticaloa Teaching hospital.

The son of Minister Maithreepala Sirisena had attempted to obtain photographs of Asela Waidyalankara’s wife while they had been enjoying the scenery.

When the victim had requested the Son of Minister Maithreepala Sirisena to abstain from obtaining photographs, he had been severely assaulted on his head.

After having been admitted to the ICU of the Batticalo hospital, the victim was transferred to a private hospital in Colombo.

13 individuals including the son of Minister Maithreepala Sirisena who had carried out the assault were placed under arrest.

However, the group had later been enlarged on bail.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission Attorney at law Prathibha Mahanamahewa stated that during such an incident where an individual has been severely assaulted the Police cannot grant bail to the suspects arrested.

The brother of Minister Maithreepala Sirisena, Priyantha Sirisena was arrested last October after having caused damages to the Polonnaruwa wildlife office.

Minister Maithreepala Sirisena responded to that incident during that time as follows.

Although we attempted to contact Minister Maithreepala Sirisena regarding the charge against his son our attempts were proven futile.

We also attempted to contact Daham Sirisena, who is charged over the incident and our attempts were once again unsuccessful.
