Chinese inflation rose more than expected to hit a 10-month high in February, as holiday season spending and rapid credit growth accelerated price rises.

Inflation is a key issue for the ruling Communist Party as it brings with it the risk of popular discontent over rising prices and the threat of social unrest.

The consumer price index rose 3.2 per cent year-on-year in February.
