Thilanga Sumathipala who is contesting for the Chairmanship of Sri Lanka Cricket was present before the 3 member panel appointed by the Minister of Sports yesterday.

This was with regard to the allegations that have been levelled against him.

3 leading sports clubs in the country filed objections against Thilanga Sumathipala after he handed over nominations for the SLC election.

Accordingly Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage decided to appoint a 3 member committee to look in to the charges.

The proceedings were held under the patronage of the Secretary to the Ministry of Sports throughout over 2 hours.

Baduraliya, Sebastian Night and Kegalle Sports clubs filing objections against Thilanga Sumathipala stated that he was involved in the Race by Race gambling business, an owner of a media institution and the representative of a sports equipment brand and hence he is not eligible to contest for a post at the SLC.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Cricket Chairman Upali Dharmadasa issued a communiqué yesterday.

The release says that if by chance Thilanga Sumathipala is appointed to the chair of SLC, the International Cricket Council will continue the investigations it had conducted in 2005 against Thilanga Sumathipala.

After the said investigations the International Cricket Council removed Thilanga Sumathipala from the post of director.

Sri Lanka Cricket Chairman Upali Dharmadasa expressing his views to our news team after issuing the communiqué yesterday stated as follows:
