Customs report on Ethanol consignment to be released Monday

Director General of Customs Jagath Wijeweera states that the final report regarding the two container consignments containing 62,000 litres of ethanol would be finalized this Monday.


The contents of these two containers which contained the contraband were inspected before the Director General of Customs & the Commissioner of the Department of Excise this morning.


Media personnel who arrived at the customs bay yesterday in order to cover the story were heckled by customs officials.


The two containers were detained adjacent to the Thotalanga-Inguru-kade junction last Wednesday night by excise officials.


Although the two containers were impounded excise officials were prevented from inspecting it’s contents by customs officials due to the unavailability of its owners.


This intern created a tense atmosphere between customs & excise department officials.


Director General of Customs Jagath Wijeweera expressing his views to our news team made the following clarifications with regards to the planned investigations on the two containers.




Meanwhile OIC of the Sri Jayawardhanapura Excise Office P.N. Hemantha who executed the operation on the two containers expressed the following views to our news team.
