External Affairs Minister to make special statement

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the Minister would make a special statement with regard to the statements made by the US and other western countries after the resolution on Sri Lanka was approved at the UN Human Rights Council Session in Geneva.

US State Department Spokeperson Victoria Nuland had stated that the United States will consider an international effort rather than a Sri Lankan-led effort if Sri Lanka is not forthcoming to implement the actions decreed by the resolution put forth by the US in Geneva.

US Secretary of State John Kerry had also stated that the resolution reiterated the need to follow a proper procedure to strengthen reconciliation in the country.

Hence the Minister of External Affairs is expected to reveal Sri Lanka’s stance on these views through a special statement.
