Request to vacate IPL tournament from Chennai

Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India Prasad Kariyawasam states that the people of a country should be able to formulate solutions for their own domestic issues.


Engaging in an interview with India’s ‘the week’ Kariwasam has noted that external intervention in a countries affairs was only possible based on the willingness of a countries people.


When inquired if the recently adopted US sponsored resolution would cause a strain on bilateral relationships between India & Sri Lanka, Kariyawasam dismissed such a notion.


Meanwhile, The Indian cricket board has no plans to shift Indian Premier League matches out of Chennai despite threats by Tamil activists to disrupt games involving Sri Lankan players.


Ratnakar Shetty, chief administrative officer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India said as of now the matches will be held in Chennai.


IPL teams have requested the IPL governing council to move matches away from Chennai.


IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla said that the governing council was happy with the security situation in Chennai
