Suspension order on committee appointed to probe corruption in Kelaniya prolonged

The Colombo High Court today decided to prolong the suspension order given to the single member investigation committee which was appointed to probe alleged corruption & malpractice within the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha.


Under the order investigations of the committee would be suspended until the 25th of July.


The decision in this regard was issued when a petition seeking the suspension on the liquefaction of the Kealniya Pradeshiya Sabha filed by its Chairman Prasanna Ranaweera was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Preethi Padman Soorasena today.


The single member investigation committee meanwhile was appointed by Chief Minister of the Western province Prasanna Ranathunga.


Meanwhile the court case filed against the son of Minister Mervyn Silva & 7 others for having assaulted a major attached to the militaries intelligence wing was taken up before the Colombo Fort Magistrates Court today.


The counsel appearing on behalf of the assaulted major had requested of court to release the mobile phone of his client.


Accordingly Colombo Fort Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya had ordered to surrender custody of the mobile phone to its owner.


Although all 7 suspects involved in the case were ordered to appear before court today suspects number 3 & 4 had been absent.


Subsequently the attorney representing the suspects had notified court that suspect number 4 had passed away while suspect number 3 had failed to appear.


The judge in conclusion had issues a warrant to suspect number 3, while the case has been re-slated for the 6th of May.
