Allegations levelled at influencing Arsenic committee report

Senior lecturer of the Rajarata University Channa Jayasumana states that when trying to initiate the recommendations of the report of the panel of experts regarding the usage of agricultural chemicals and its connection to kidney disease has been subject to influence by various parties.


The panel of experts were appointed based on the recommendations of the Parliamentary Advisory Select Committee and the panel of experts had presented 15 recommendations to regulate the use of agricultural chemicals.


Member of the local investigative team, Dr. Channa Jayasumana stated that these recommendations need to be initiated with immediate effect.


However, Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena refutes these allegations.




Speaking further to our news team he stated that the ministry’s attention has turned to the chemical fertilizer being used in agriculture as well.
