Rawana Balaya requests SLC to stop players from going for IPL

An epistle was handed over to Sri Lanka Cricket by the Rawana Balaya Organisation today requesting of it to prevent Sri Lankan players taking part in the IPL.


A similar request was tendered in yesterday by the National sangha Council.


Convener of the Rawana Balaya Organization Venerable Iththakande Sadhathissa Thero expressed the following views to our news team upon having handed over the epistle to Sri Lanka Cricket.




Meanwhile in a media release issued today UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella noted that Sri Lankan players were unable to participate in the IPL owing to the myopic actions of the Sri Lankan government.


When inquired from Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket Upali Dharmadasa with regards to such requests intimated by various civilian organizations he noted that the SLC was unable to prevent players from taking part in the IPL series.


He noted that it was up to the players themselves to a draw a final decision for themselves.




Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India Prasad Kariyawasam has expressed his anxiety and concern over a plethora of issues, including the safety of the Sri Lankan cricket players and other visitors in Tamil Nadu.


Sharing his views with Indian media High Commissioner Kariyawasam said that politics and sports should not be mixed.
