The Appeals Court today dismissed a petition filed by Thilanga Sumathipala against the Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Sri Lanka Cricket seeking to suspend the SLC election.

Thilanga Sumathipala filed a writ application with the Court of Appeal against the rejection of his nomination to contest for the presidency of Sri Lanka Cricket on April 2nd.

The petition was taken up before a panel consisting of Chairman of the appeals Court Sri Skanda Raja while issuing a writ order against the nomination of Thilanga Sumathipala was declined.

Three major cricket clubs had raised objections to the candidacy of Sumathipala which was consequently investigated by a committee appointed by the sports minister.

Sumathipala’s nomination was rejected by the ministry in line with the findings of that committee and upon consultation with the attorney general.
