The Tamil National Alliance states that it has not yet reached a final decision regarding the candidature of its Chief ministerial candidate for the Northern Provincial council.

Earlier rumor was rife that TNA parliamentarian Mavei Senadhi Raja would be gunning for the post based on a collective party decision.

However when contacted Senadhiraja noted that his party had not yet reached a

final decision in this regard.

He added that once the government makes public the date of the Northern provincial polls, then his party would commence the relevant discussions.

However the United National Party notes that it has already commenced it propaganda campaign aimed at the Northern provincial polls.

A group including UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe & several other party members are due to tour the Jaffana district later this month, subsequent to which its Chief Ministerial candidate would be announced.

According to government sources the Northern provincial polls are most likely to be conducted prior to the end of this year.
