Special party leader meeting held in Parliament

Parliament was adjourned for 10 minutes this morning to make way for a special party leaders meeting.


The meeting is being held to discuss the debate over several draft tax bills due to be debated later in the day.


When parliament convened this morning under the aegis of House Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa the stance of the Supreme Court with regard to the proposed draft tax bills were announced.


Here Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa had informed the house that the bills were not in accordance with the constitution.


At this juncture Leader of the House Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva had requested for a special party leaders meeting to be held.


Subsequent to this meeting parliament reconvened.
