CEB consults External Affairs ministry regarding US request on power

The Ministry of External Affairs states that it has taken expedient steps to provide the required guidance to the Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board based on a request made by him.


In a letter the American Embassy in Colombo had expressed its interest in discussing issues pertaining to the proposed electricity tariff hike as well as the suspension of fuel to CEB operated power plants.


In its letter the American embassy has requested the Chairman of the CEB W.B. Ganegala & its General Manager Nihal Wickremesooriya for a discussion date.


However when inquired the Chairman of the CEB added that he had requested for guidance from the Sri Lankan Ministry of External Affairs.


Meanwhile various views are being expressed in the political arena with regards to the request tendered in by the US embassy in Colombo.


Deputy General Secretary of the UNP  Dr. Jayalath Jayawardhana speaking to our news team expressed the following views in this regard.
