10 deaths during New Year season; 4 deaths included

The police Media Unit states that 6 persons have been killed due to clashes during the New Year season while 4 deaths have been reported due to drowning.


According to National Hospital Sources compared to last year, this year has seen a rise in the number of casualties.


Moreover 480 individuals have been hospitalized due to various injuries.


2 individuals were killed last evening during separate clashes which had taken place in the Piliyandala-Batakaththara area & Padawiya Gamunupura area.


Moreover 3 individuals had sustained injuries during an altercation which had taken place in the Piliyandala-Batakaththara area last night, while a 4 year old chilled had drowned to death in the Naththandiya-Kottaramulla area.


Moreover 4 persons have been killed due to drowning incidents in several parts of the island.


Deputy Chairman of the Sri Lanka Life Guard Association A. Choolasiri cautions the public to be cautious when bathing in bodies of water.
