Friday, 19 April 2013 - 8:07

Dr. Channa Jayasumana, lecturer at the Rajarata University Medical faculty which carries out research with regard to the Kidney disease  says that investigations should be conducted to find out how the Anuradhapura well water is contaminated with Malathion.

It was revealed in a test carried out by Water Supplies and Drainage Board that the Anuradhapura well water contains  Malaxene that harms the  Kidney.

Water Supplies Board Laboratory Services Division Head H. A. K. Amarakoon told our news team that Malaxene was produced by Oxygen reacting with Malathion used for Malaria control.

It has been revealed that well water has been contaminated by Malaxene in tests carried out in Oyaamaduwa and Tantirimale in Anuradhapura district.

However Dr. Channa Jayasumana says that the use of Malathion for agricultural purposes should be completely banned in Sri Lanka.
