Minister Wasudewa Nanayakkara in a letter addressed to the President has requested of him to look into the flaws in the existing electricity tariff calculation formula.

 

Minister Nanayakkara in his letter has further added that it was the middle class which was overwhelmingly burdened by this decision.

Deputy General Secretary of the United National Party Dr. Jayalath Jayawardhana meanwhile noted that his party was considering perusing court action in this regard.

When contacted Secretary to the Ministry of Power & Energy M.M.C. Fernando made mention of the following views regarding the price hike effected on electricity tariffs.

Fernando also noted that once production of electricity commences next January utilizing coal, the price of electricity tariffs may be reduced.

Minister of Petroleum Resources Anura Priyadharshana Yapa however during a recent media briefing expressed these views with regards to the suspension of fuel supplies provided to the CEB.
