Electricity tariff was increased to pay government debt; a statement from opposition leader.

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe says that the electricity tariff was increased to repay Government debts.


The Opposition Leader who is engaged in a tour of Jaffna said so at a discussion held with a group of UNP activists at Point Pedro yesterday.




Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress has convened a special discussion for deciding on expressing opposition to the Government over the electricity tariff increase.


Muslim Congress National Organizer Shafeeq Raajaabdeen explaining about the subject to our news team stated as follows.




Meanwhile participating at a media briefing held in Kandy yesterday Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that politicians express different views with regard to the electricity tariff increase.




Former Power and Energy Minister Paatali Champika Ranawaka issuing an announcement recently had said that the current Power and Energy Minister Pavitraadevee Vanniaarachchi had made a statement that gives the impression that it was he who had proposed the electricity tariff increase.


On this occasion the former Power and Energy Minister said that he had not made such a proposal in any way.
