Government given time till 20th May to reduce electricity tariffs

The Coordinating Committee for Trade Union Alliance states that if electricity tariffs are not revised back to their standard rate prior to the 20th of May, trade unions would resort to a token strike.


Trade unions including the National Trade Union Centre, Federation of University Teachers Alliance, Free Trade Zone General Trade Union & the Lanka Teacher Trade Union are represented under the common banner while the press conference convened in Colombo in this regard was convened under candle light.


Convener of the Coordinating Committee for Trade Union Alliance Wasantha Samarasinghe speaking here expressed the following views.




However Deputy Minister of Finance Dr. Sarath Amunugama expressed the following views recently with regards to the price hike in electricity tariffs.
