Sri Lanka a hub for human trafficking; says Human Rights commission.

Human Rights Commissioner, Dr Prathiba Mahanamahewa states that Sri lanka has become a hub for human trafficking.

He said that this issue has become a topic discussed in the international arena.


Meanwhile, The Indian Government said Sri Lankan Tamil refugees are being trafficked on the pretext of sending them to Australia and more than 1,100 such persons have been intercepted by security forces.

India’s Minister of State for Home Affairs, RPN Singh told Lok Sabha since 2010 and till date, 1,163 Sri Lankan Tamil refugees were intercepted along with 57 Indians while being trafficked and 41 cases were registered in this connection.

He said the Tamil Nadu government has asked all Commissioners of Police to take action against offenders besides taking other steps to check the menace.
