Working community is essential to direct the economy on the correct path; says President.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa issuing a May Day message said It is with great honour that we extend the gratitude of the nation to the working people of Sri lanka who have given everyone the opportunity to celebrate International Workers’ Day with respect and dignity.

President said on this May Day, he joins in solidarity with the workers of Sri Lanka who come together with all working people of the world to achieve their rights.

Sri Lanka is now a middle income country, an achievement made possible due to guiding of the national economy in the proper direction.

President stated that the driving force behind this has been the working people of Sri lanka, who have looked correctly towards the future of the motherland.

Prime Minister D M Jayarathna in his May day message said This year’s May Day symbolizes a special landmark in Sri Lanka’s history.

That is because Sri Lanka is now in a position to reap the harvest of the investments in giant development drives launched at the end of the war.

Prime Minister said The working community as well as the entire population of the country has been assigned the responsibility of taking the country towards the development by defeating the challenges encountered on its way.
