The Opposition asks relief for the people

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe addressed a May Day rally organized by the UNP and several other opposition parties at Maligapitiya Kurunegala this evening.


Wickremesinghe who demanded the government to grant sufficient concessions to the people has this to say.




The JVP May Day rally is being held at the BRC ground at this moment.


Party polite bureau member and former MP K.D.Lalkantha expressed his views to the gathering.




Meanwhile several political parties representing estate workers held May Day rallies this evening.


Ceylon Workers Congress May Day rally was held under the patronage of its leader Arumugam Thondaman in Nuwara Eliya today.


Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa also joined the CWC rally in Nuwara Eliya.


Addressing the gathering CWC Leader Arumugam Thondaman expressed his views on the May Day spirits.




Meanwhile Kandurata Peoples Front held its May Day rally at the sports ground of the Tea Research Institute in Talawakele.


Party leader Shanthini Chandrasekeran and the leader of its political wing MP V.Radha Chrisnan joined the rally.


Our correspondent reporting on the spot said that a while before the rally is over, the meeting stage of the Kandurata Peoples Front was collapsed but nobody got hurt.
