Influenza phlegm & blood film samples to be tested around the clock

The Minister of Health has instructed all relevant sectors to prioritize the screening of blood film samples & phlegm to diagnose the influenza ‘A’ virus.

Accordingly blood as well as phlegm samples would be tested at the Medical Research Institute in Colombo on a 24 hour basis.

Moreover Epidemiology Unit has taken steps to scan for the influenza ‘A’ virus within all leading hospitals.

Recently several expectant mothers at the Castle Women’s hospital were diagnosed with the virus while two deaths were also reported.
