Senior TNA MP M. A. Sumantiran says that it is a legal issue that is obstructing the registration of the TNA
The country’s constitution provides for the registration of a party in January.
It is reported that plans are underway to register the Tamil National Alliance under a new leader owing to internal conflicts within the party concerning its registration.
However the Illangai Thamil Arusu Katchchi, a constituent party of the TNA headed by its leader R. Sambanthan remains opposed to the notion.
The rest of the TNA constituents which comprise the TELO, EPRLF, PLOT & the TULF are in favor of the notion, and are poised to go ahead with the re-registration of the TNA under a new leader.
A senior leader of TELO M.K. Siwajilingam speaking to our news team meanwhile expressed the following views in this regard.
MP Sumantiran said that there was no legal provision for the Election Commissioner to permit registration of a party in other months.
