Several areas in Colombo and Gampaha submerged; heavy rains today as well;

The Disaster Management Centre says that several low lying areas and roads have been submerged as a result of the prevalent Weather condition of heavy rains in the Colombo and Gampaha districts.

Disaster Management Centre Deputy Media Director Sarath Laal Kumaara said this situation existed mainly in Mutwal, Waellampitiya and Kolonnaawa in the Colombo district and Wattala in the Gampaha district.

Current Intern monsoon weather pattern would continue right throughout the month of May.

Duty Officer of the Department of Meteorology Anusha Varnasuriya said that thunderstorms could be expected in the evening.

She also said thundershowers will develop throughout the island today evening as well warns the public to be cautious of thunderstorm during heavy showers.
