Inclement weather to continue; speedy relief for the distressed.

The Meteorology Department says that the current inclement weather condition could be expected to continue in the coming several days as well.


Meteorologist on duty Jeevan Karunarathne said that strong thunderstorms and lightning could develop late evening.




The Disaster Management Centre said that more than 108 thousand persons continued to  be in distress in the Colombo and Gampaha districts as a result of the heavy rain weather condition prevalent in the past few days.


Disaster Management Centre Deputy Media Director Sarath Laal Kumaara said that steps had been taken for providing speedy relief to the distressed persons.


Meanwhile the Department of Irrigation warns the residents in feeding areas of the Parakrama Samudra, Veheragala and Lunugamvehera reservoirs to be cautious as the sluice gates of the three reservoirs have been opened.


Janaki Meegasthanna of the Department of Irrigation requested the users of these rivers to be extra vigilant during this period.
