Public Utilities Commission decision on CEB proposal to be announced this evening

The Public Utilities Commission will reconsider the new CEB electricity relief package prepared according to the President’s May Day speech when the Commission meets this evening.

The CEB announced a while ago that it will implement the new relief package with the consent of the Public Utilities Commission.

However the Coordinating Committee to combine Trade Unions has decided to launch a strike on the 21st of May, in protest of the government’s decision to increase electricity tariffs.

Convener of the Coordinating Committee and JVP Provincial Councilor Wasantha Samarasinghe said that he had discussions in this regard with UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at Sirikotha this morning.



UNP Deputy General Secretary and President of Jatika Sevaka Sangamaya Dr.Jayalath Jayawardana who participated in the discussions said that his party decided to support the strike on May 21.


The Committee also had further discussions with the leaders of the JVP.
