Sapugaskanda refinery activities put on hold from today.

Wednesday, 15 May 2013 - 7:54

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation says that it will be necessary to temporarily withhold the refinery activities of the Sapugaskanda Refinery from today.

CPC Managing Director Susanta de Silva said that it would be necessary to completely withhold refinery activities from noon today.

The Managing Director told our news team that the mechanical problem that had cropped up in the vessel bringing crude oil to the country from Dubai was the main reason for this temporary standstill.

However Petroleum resources Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa had earlier said that the refinery activities of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery would have to be put on hold if crude oil was not received by tomorrow.

Petroleum Unions say that it had become necessary to withhold the refinery activities due to sufficient crude oil not being ordered at the proper time.

National Employees’ Union’s CPC branch Chairman Aananda Paalitha  said that due to this the CPC will face a severe financial crisis.
