Burnt corpse of businessman found from Kelaniya

The corpse of a businessman was found in Gonawela-kelaniya this morning at the premises of his own back yard.


According to police the body is said to have sustained burn injuries.


Investigations in search of the corpse commenced subsequent to a complaint lodged by a son of the victim.


Police state that the victim who is a renowned bakery owner was suffering from intoxication issues.


The case is being treated as a suicide with further investigations commencing.


The corpse has been put to rest at the mortuary of the Ragama hospital.


Meanwhile a suspect has committed suicide within a cell of the Bamabalapitiya police station.


According to Police Media Spokesperson SP Buddhika Siriwardhana the suspect had been placed under arrest for having stolen vehicle parts.


The suspect who had requested for a rag to wipe off the contents of a tea cup provided to him within the prison cell-which had spilt on his body, had used the very same rag to commit suicide.


The suspect who is a resident of Kotahena had been taken into custody by the Bambalapitiya police earlier & released subsequently.
