Strike on 21st was similar to a premature child says UNP while JVP steps to the streets

The JVP this evening organized a protest in Colombo against the recent hike in electricity tariffs.


The protest march which commenced from Punchi Borella traveled via Maradana & converged before the Fort railway station.


JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissnayake who expressed his views here noted that the public should revolt against the government for excessively burdening them.




Meanwhile a tense situation arose during a media briefing which was convened by the United People’s Freedom Alliance today.


The media briefing which was convened touched on the recent general strike which was launched on the 21st of this month & was attended by Minister of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Rajitha Senarathna.


When questioned a heated exchange of words erupted between Minister Rajitha Senarathna & a participating journalist who said that the decrease in electricity tariffs

was meant to mislead the public.


Moreover UNP MP Hareen Fernando assimilated the recent general strike which was observed on the 21st of this month similar to giving birth to a premature infant.

However Chairman of the National trade Union Centre K.D. Lal Kantha who spoke during yet another media briefing which was held in Colombo today, expressed  dissimilar views.
