7 Wesak Zones and 10 Pandals in Colombo

It is reported that a large number of Buddhist devotees are thronging to sacred sites throughout the country in view of Vesak.


According to our correspondents devotees from areas such as Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Mahanuwara & Katharagama are traveling to places of worship in view of Vesak.


A large number of devotees have been witnessed at the Sri Dalada Maligawa as well the Kaluthara Sacred Bodhi.


Similar numbers have been witnessed in Anuradhapura as well as Dambulla.


According to the Police Headquarters more than 2000 police officers have been deployed in Colombo to provide security to devotees.


Police Media Spokesman SP Buddhika Siriwardana said that special security arrangements are now in place to ensure safety of the visitors to Colombo.




Devotees arriving in Colombo are able to witness 7 Vesak zones as well as 10 pandols.


They would also be able to treat themselves to 500 alms stalls located within the capitol.


Urban Commissioner Badrani Jayawardana said that all public amenities have already been put in place for the benefit of the visitors.
