The funeral of self immolated Venerable Indaratana is held

The final rights of Venerable Bowaththe Indarathana Thero who self immolated himself before the Sacred Temple of the Tooth took place this evening at the premises of the Poranuwa Public Grounds this evening.


Based on a court order received by the Maligakanda courts police took steps to lay the body at the Poranuwa Sri Sugatharama Vihara.


A large number of lay as well as clergy arrived at the venue to pay their respects to the late thero.


Special police protection was deployed in the Kahawaththa area while meet stalls & taverns were also closed.


Yellow flags were hoisted in the Kahawaththa town as a sign of respect to Venerable Bowaththe Indarathana thero.


Ordained in 1191 Venerable Bowaththe Indarathana Thero was 31 years old at the time of his death.


Appointed to the Palmadulla Pradeshiya Sabha in 2011 under the JHU ticket the membership of Venerable Bowaththe Indarathana Thero was rescinded since he had failed to attend the final 7 sessions of the Pradeshiya Sabha.


Meanwhile JHU Parliamentarian Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero expressed these views regarding Late Bowaththe Indarathana Thero during a media briefing which was held in Colombo today.




Meanwhile General Secretary of the UNP MP Thissa Aththanayeke speaking during yet another media briefing today added that the government was attempting to suppress the demands of late Bowaththe Indarathana Thero.
