Two members of a robber gang were injured when police shot the vehicle in which the robbers were running away with a heist of gold jewelry and cash at Madukanda in Dutu Wewa.

Police Media Spokesman’s Office stated that two other suspects were taken to police custody and the injured were rushed to Vavuniya hospital.

Police began investigations on a complaint made by the incumbent monk of the Seeduwe Nandaratana Temple yesterday.

Meanwhile the vehicle in which the gang was fleeing had been signaled to stop at the Dutu Wewa police check point.

As the robbers continued to speed despite police warnings, police had to chase the vehicle, shot at it and arrest the runaway gang.
