Real reason behind Canada's opposition to Sri Lanka revealed

A former Canadian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Martin Collacott told the National Post that he believes the Canadian government would not attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Colombo fearing that it would lose the Tamil vote base in the country.


Collacott who was in Sri Lanka in 1983 and now lives in Vancouver said the second largest Tamil population including Sri Lankans other than the South Asian region lives in Canada.


He also said the majority Tamils in Canada attempt to convince the world that Sri Lankan government is perpetuating to oppress Tamils in the island.
