Showers to persist; 5 districts faced with land slide threat

The National Building Research Organization states that if the incessant rains continue for a further 24 hours, 5 districts may face the threat of landslides.


These districts include Kegalle, Rathnapura, Kaluthara, Galle & Mathara.


Head of the NBRO’s Landslide Division R.M.S. Bandara speaking to our news team requested of those residing in these districts to remain vigilant in this regard.


Meanwhile around 10 vehicles parked outside the Kandy Central Supermarket were damaged resulting in the heavy showers & winds which were experienced this morning.


However the Disaster Management Centre states that a severe disaster situation has not yet been experienced.


Against this backdrop Minister of Disaster Management Mahinda Amaraweera states that his ministry remains prepared to face any disaster situation.


Expressing his views in this regard Minister Amaraweera noted that all relevant officials had been notified with how to deal with such a situation.




Moreover the Department of Meteorology predicts that the weather pattern being experienced at present may persist during the next few days.
