Signs of another petrol shortage; a tanker is on its way; says CPC.

Tuesday, 04 June 2013 - 8:11

According to information it is reported that there will be a shortage of petrol during the next couple of days.

It is also reported that only 6000 metric tons of refined fuel is available at the Muthurajawela oil storage complex.

According to information received since 1500 metric tons of fuel is used per day the fuel stock will only last for 4 days.

The main reason for this issue is not releasing sufficient stocks of refined fuel to the market from the Sapugaskanda oil refinery.

The Sapugaskanda oil refinery was closed on the 16th due to the unavailability of crude oil and it was re-opened on the 28th.

Due to technical failures in the Sapugaskanda oil refinery, the authorities are unable to produce Octane 90 and 95 using Oman crude oil.

When our news team inquired from the Managing Director of the CPC, Susantha Desilva regarding the issue he stated that there will be no shortage of petrol in the market.

He further stated that a tanker carrying 30 thousand metric tons of petrol is scheduled to arrive on the 6th of this month.
