Schools+given+deadlines+for+eradication+of+dengue

The Health Ministry and the Education Ministry have agreed to issue a join circular ordering all schools in the island to reserve a specific time per week to work on preventing dengue.

This decision was taken at a meeting held today between Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Niha Jayatilleka and Education Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Jayaratne.

Health Ministry stated that 13 thousand dengue cases reported during the last 5 months and majority of the victims were school children. The ministry insisted that special attention should be given to prevent dengue attack on students.

Meanwhile, Health Workers Unions charged that authorities try to hide the true statistics of dengue cases as the killer disease is currently developing into epidemic level.

President of the Federation of Health Services Unions Saman Rathnapriya said that the authorities have stopped uploading the Internet with the details of dengue patients.

When contacted a top officials of the Contagions Science Unit of the Health Ministry said that the uploading the Internet with the updates of dengue death toll is temporarily stopped.
