Ampara town council chairman arrested

Chairman of the Ampara Town Council Indika Nalin, wanted in connection with an assault on an Ampara businessman has surrendered to police this afternoon.


Indika Nalin had assaulted businessman Imosh Tivanka when Tivanka came to meet the Town Council Chairman in his office at Ampara Town Council yesterday.


Tivanka said that the Town Council Chairman informed him to send his two brothers to the latter’s office to settle a matter.


Later the businessman Tivanka was assaulted by the Town Council Chairman when he and his two brothers visited the Town Council Chairman at his office.


Several incidents of assault by local government politicians were reported during the last few weeks.


One such incident is the assault on two policemen on duty by Chairman of the Ambilipitiya Pradeshiya Sabha who is now under remand prison.
