The Collective of National Organizations against the 13th Amendment states a referendum should be held on the proposal to abolish the 13th Amendment as the government is finding it difficult to obtain two third majority.

Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today the convener of the Collective of National Organizations against the 13th Amendment Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekera requested the President to hold a referendum in this regard.

Meanwhile the New India Express website quoted a top Indian government official saying that the Indian government has lobbied its displeasure over Sri Lanka’s move to make changes to the 13th Amendment.

The official has stated that making changes to the 13th Amendment would not serve to resolve the political problems in the island.

He also stated that the Indian External Affairs Minister had informed his Sri Lankan counterpart through his diplomatic channels not to make changes to the 13th Amendment.
