Opposition leader to fight for 17th amendment

Opposition leader Ranil Wickramasinghe states that independent commissions should be established and the 17th amendment should be initiated expediently.


Wickramasinghe, speaking at a meeting held at the Jayawardena Center expressed that this should take place before all amendments.




However, various opinions are being expressed in society regarding the 13th amendment.


Speaking to the media yesterday in Kandy, Minister of National Languages and Social Integration Wasudewa Nanayakkara stated that the forces against it are not strong forces.




Speaking at a meeting held in Kandy, UNP General Secretary Parliamentarian Thissa Attanayaka stated that the government is avoiding the issues faced by the public by speaking about the 13th amendment.




The JVP, who has constantly opposed the provincial council system, is preparing to present a set of proposals aimed at safeguarding the rights of the Tamils in the North.


Upon inquiry by our news team, JVP Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayaka expressed the following views.




However, speaking at a meeting held in Matara, Minister Dallas Alahapperuma states that the 13th amendment was put in place due to being intimidated by Prabakaran.
