Fisheries Ministry refutes the reports to the effect that Chinese fishing trawlers carry out fishing activities illegally within Sri Lanka’s sea limits.

These reports said that at certain times Chinese fishing trawlers engage in fishing activities by entering within the Sri Lankan sea limits.

Reports say that very often these Chinese trawlers carry out fishing activities by hoisting the Sri Lankan flag.

Our news team inquired about this from Deputy Fisheries Minister Sarath Kumaara Gunaratne.

The Deputy Minister said that the Chinese had been granted permition to carry out fishing activities only within the international sea boundaries.

The Deputy Minister said further that they had been instructed not to enter the Sri Lanka Sea boundary.
