Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh stated that Sri Lanka having decided to reduce powers in the 13th amendment before the Northern Provincial Council election was a matter of surprise to him.

The Indian Premier stated this when he had met with TNA Parliamentarians in New Delhi yesterday.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs had issued a release including the sentiments echoed by the Indian Premier and it went on to say that doubts have arisen regarding the assurances made by Sri Lanka to the world on power devolution.

Meanwhile, Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunga stated that the 13th amendment was a white elephant.

Meanwhile, TNA Leader R Sambanthan had expressed these views regarding the assurances given by the Indian Premier.

However, Leader of the National Freedom Front Minister Wimal Weerawansa, Leader of the Democratic People’s Front Mano Ganeshan and Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva expressed their views on the matter at separate media briefings that were held in Colombo today.
