Mother tongue, religion and history compulsory for Local students in International and private schools.

The Government had decided to make compulsory the mother tongue, religion and history to local students who are attending international and private schools in the island.


The Cabinet also gave its approval to amend the necessary educational Act to empower the Ministry authorities to regulate and monitor the international and private school curriculum.


The Government has also decided to set up a Private School Unit with legislative powers under the purview of the Ministry of Education in order to make observations over the manner the international and private schools teaching students these subjects in the future.
