Thursday, 20 June 2013 - 19:07

The Government has decided to bring in to parliament the 19th Amendment as an urgent bill to change the 13th Amendment.

The Cabinet decided to make changes to the 13th Amendment in order to cancel the provisions which had earlier enabled two or more than two Provincial Councils to merge themselves into one administrative unit.

During the media briefing to inform Cabinet decisions held in Colombo today Cabinet Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that the SLFP also agreed to the cancellation of certain clauses of the 13th Amendment.

However the government had promised India earlier that the country would exercise a power sharing method which would go beyond the provisions of the 13th Amendment.

During today’s press briefing, journalists questioned Minister Rambukwella and this is the dialogue between the Minister and the Media.
