Indian National Security Advisor to arrive in Sri Lanka

Friday, 21 June 2013 - 13:31

Indian Media reported today that its National Security Adviser Shivsankar Menan will tour in Sri Lanka early next month.

The reports also stated that the aim of Shivsankar Menan’s visit is to discuss the sharing of power to the provinces under the provisions of the 13th Amendment.

The reports also stated that the Indian National Security Adviser expects to lobby the response of India towards the move to dilute the powers of the 13th Amendment.

A delegation of TNA met Indian Premier Manmohan Singh and National Security adviser Shivsankar Menan during their recent visit to New Delhi.

During the TNA visit in India, MP Selvam Adaikalanathan had told Indian media about the Menan’s visit to Sri Lanka and later Indian media reported that Menan would visit Sri Lanka on July 7.

However Indian newspapers quoted official sources saying that National Security Adviser visits Sri Lanka to discuss a tripartite marine security system to which India, Sri Lanka and the Maldive islands are parties.

Local political parties hold different opinions on the intervention by India in local affairs at a time a public dialogue is going on about the 13th Amendment.

UNP MP Ajith P Perera expressed his views to our news team on the developments of the India’s attempt to interfere in Sri Lanka.

JVP Central Political Bureau member MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake had this to say.

Our news team also contacted Investment Promotions Minister Lakhsman Yapa Abeywardana to comment on the government side of story.
