Muslim congress to contest alone at the North, North Western and Central elections.

Wednesday, 26 June 2013 - 8:09

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress said that for now it has decided to contest alone at the Northern, North Western and Central provincial elections.

SLMC national organizer Shafeek Raajaabdeen  said that discussions had already been held about it.

He said that there was no MoU with the Government at the Northern Provincial council election.

Meanwhile participating at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday UNP general secretary Tissa Attanayaka expressed his views about the 13th amendment as follows:

The Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provincial Councils passed resolutions yesterday in support of the government’s move to repeal 2 provisions of the 13th Amendment.

The new changes are supposed to prevent two or more provincial councils to be merged themselves into one administrative unit and enabling Parliament to make laws on subjects only with the approval from majority of the provincial councils instead of approval from all of them as set out in the present constitution.
