The Department of Railways is preparing to install a temporary bamboo gate at the unprotected railway level crossing on the Aluthgama Deport Road.

Director of Railway Transport L.A.R. Rathnayake told our news team that steps will be taken soon to replace the temporary gate with a modern one equipped with signal lights.

6 women were killed recently in an accident at this unprotected railway level crossing, and several other similar incidents were also reported in the past.

Resident monk of the adjacent temple Sri Purvaramaya, Weeraketiye Jinarathana Thera said that the authorities did not take remedial measure to prevent continuous tragedies at the level crossing.

Our news team contacted Director of Railway Transport L.A.R. Rathnayake to comment on the allegations.
