Minister Basil begins talks in India

Indian media reported that Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapakse who is currently touring India is scheduled to meet with Indian foreign minister Salman Kurshid today.


According to Indian media reports, the discussion will mainly concentrate on the 13th amendment.


Minister Basil Rajapakse is also scheduled to meet with Indian defence minister Shivshankar Menon and engage in discussions.


Currently the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka has also travelled to New Delhi and the Asian Tribune Website states that prior to leaving, the high commissioner had met with MP R. Sambandan of the TNA and engaged in talks.


However, during the Cabinet Decision Press Briefing, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella explained the objective of the visit of Minister Rajapakse in the following manner.




Meanwhile, group representatives of fishermen in Sri Lanka and of Tamil Nadu had engaged in discussions with Minister Basil Rajapakse in New Delhi this morning.


During the discussion Minister Rajapakse had extended an invitation to the representatives of the Tamil Nadu fishermen to come to Sri Lanka to discuss the issue faced by both Indian and Sri Lankan fishermen.


In addition, the representatives of the Sri Lankan fishermen are scheduled to meet with the Congress Party leader Sonia Gandhi and Indian minister of finance P. Chidambaram.
