Elections Commissioner meets with party representatives

The Elections Secretariat stated that the gazette notification calling nominations for North Western, Central and Northern Provincial Council elections will be issued before the 11th of this month.


Political parties will be provided 10 days to submit their nominations for the elections that are likely to be held either on the 21st or 28th of September.


The North Western and Central Provincial Councils were dissolved with effect from last midnight and the President had officially ordered the Elections Commissioner to hold the election for the Northern Provincial Council as well.


Meanwhile, a special meeting was held between the Elections Commissioner and representatives of Political parties this morning at the Elections Secretariat.


Attorney at law Palitha Gamage who represented the UPFA at the meeting expressed these views to the media following the discussion.




Meanwhile, UNP Assistant Leader Joseph Michael Perera stated that they expect a free and fair election.




TNA Parliamentarian Suresh Premachandra who also took part in the discussion expressed these views.
