It is reported that the 3 member committee that was appointed to look in to the loss of life and property during the recent rainstorm has forwarded 14 recommendations.
Accordingly the recommendations also include making it mandatory for fishermen to wear life jackets, which is a law even at present.
It has also recommended making it mandatory to obtain an insurance policy as well.
The report goes on to say that the Met Department issues weather warnings properly and that relevant factions should coordinate with the Met department to ensure that the warnings reach the endangered groups on time.
Meanwhile, Minister of Disaster Management Mahinda Amaraweera speaking at an event that was held in Hambantota yesterday expressed these views regarding the report.
