Meanwhile Senior Minister S. B Navinna has even by now revealed that he would come forward as a candidate at the North Western Provincial Council election.
He has said that he is prepared to face any challenge whoever comes forward for the North Western Provincial election.
Senior Minister S. B. Navinna told our news team that accordingly, that on the eve of the day of handing over nomination he would resign from his parliamentary seat in order to contest at the provincial council election.
Our news team inquired from Senior Minister S. B. Navinna whether he would submit his candidacy for the Chief Ministry position.
The Senior Minister replied that although the party had not yet appointed a person for the CM’s post, he was prepared to contest with anyone.
Our news team inquired from the Senior Minister about reports published saying that MPs would not be allowed to contest at the provincial council elections.
The senior Minister replied that since he is an SLFP vice chairman, the party had not taken such a decision.
Senior Minister S. B. Navinna elaborating on the subject stated as follows:
However a Senior SLFP spokesman told our news team that the SLFP had so far not named a Chief Minister candidate for the Provincial councils where election is held.
Most probably a decision will be taken about this on the eve of the day of handing over nomination.
The senior spokesman said in the backdrop of the chief minister post being left open at several past provincial council elections, there is a greater chance for the same practice be followed this time as well.
